Admission
My child does not hold a HK visa yet, will he/she be able to start school?
Your child does not need to hold an HK visa throughout the Admission process.
Then, in accordance with the Education Bureau and Immigration Department’s regulations, only students in possession of a valid immigration status or visa can be enrolled in Hong Kong schools. Failing this, the French International School of Hong Kong will not be able to accept your child to enter the school’s premises. -
Finance
How much is the assesment fee and what does it cover?
Our assessment fees are the following:
● For pupils applying to International stream: HK$1,000 per student
● For pupils applying to French stream and selected by FIS to join bilingual parity basis system or SIA in Primary: HK$500 per student
The assessment fee is non-refundable and non-transferable, whether the assessment is successful or unsuccessful and must be settled prior to the assessment day. It covers the admissions assessment and all related administrative tasks. This fee is only valid for one academic year. If an applicant does not gain admission, and thus reapplies for the next academic year, the testing fee must be paid again. Settlement of the assessment fee shall be made via bill payment, bank transfer, online credit card payment or cheque prior to the assessment. FIS reserves the right not to accept an applicant on the day of the assessment if the fee is not settled.

Assessment
My child can’t be in Hong Kong to attend the assessment, can it be defferred?
As the format of assessment varies for each stream and for each year group, please notify us when you receive the assessment invitation and if you cannot attend for this reason.
We will try our best, even though not guaranteed, to arrange another assessment date and/or a different format of assessment accordingly. -
Assessment
What are your entry criteria to apply for the International Stream?
As most of our students are joining us at Reception year, please note we will evaluate this year group’s applicants with regard to (but not limited to):
– English Language Proficiency is a must to follow the curriculum
– Developmental Readiness Skills
– Social and Emotional Development
– Fit to FIS’ Curriculum and Learning methods -
Assessment
Is a physical exam required prior to admission to FIS?
A physical exam is not required prior to Admissions.
However, we will require you to fill a form to inform us of any health/medical/physical concern we should know about your child, upon application or prior to the assessment. -
Assessment
Should my child pass an assessment and if so, what type of assessment is it?
For International stream, an assessment is required for each year group and its format will be disclosed to parents when sending an invitation to attend. We work on group assessment format, classroom trials as well as online test depending on the year group you applied for.
For French stream, we usually do not require an assessment however we might request one for non-French applicants or applicants who did not attend an AEFE or French public school so far. -
Application
We don’t speak French at home in our family, can we still apply?
All families are welcome to apply!
There are a lot of non-French and non-French speaking families currently at FIS, our school gathers more than 40 nationalities.
No need to speak French to join our International stream where learnings are taught in English and your child will learn progressively French as foreign language.
And if you are applying for the French stream while no-one speaks French in your family, please contact our Admissions team and we will arrange an informal meeting with you to understand your motivations behind your application and discuss together whether it is possible or not. -
Application
I would like my child to join the French Stream but in a class with more English learning (bilingual parity basis (BPH) / SIA), what should I do?
You apply for a specific year group and school year but unfortunately not for an option as it results of a selective process initiated by FIS
– First, students must already have been educated one full year at FIS in classic class or bilingual immersive (BIM). Yearly, a commission takes place to decide which students are recommended to attend BPH/SIA for the following school year.
– Then, students from a BPH (bilingual parity basis) class in the AEFE network will be placed directly on the waiting list, after students already schooled at FIS.
– Exceptionally, if there still are places available in class BPH / SIA after the waiting list has been exhausted, the commission may review student records enrolled for less than a school year.
In any case, please inform us if you have such an interest upon application and we will take it in consideration.
