On Wednesday 7 March, Latin students from both Streams (4eme to 1ere and Years 8 – 11) sat the National Latin Exam; this American exam (organised for the second time at FIS) tests the level of each student in a fun way through multiple choice questions about language, civilisation, history, mythology, etc. The results are expected during April.
In the meantime, for the first time, the Latin Department at FIS is taking part in the European Latin-Greek Festival. This comprises public reading of extracts from The Ovid’s Metamorphoses, across the world and in all languages. In Hong Kong, this event will take place on Friday 23 March in the BPR Library from 4 – 5:30pm. Extracts are read by Latin students from 4eme to Terminale in languages as varied as Latin, Mandarin, English, Italian, Dutch, etc. Students from International School Foundation will join in too. The readings will be filmed and then put on the Festival and FIS websites.
Finally, after the Easter holidays, Latin students in 2nde will be selling their Monopolium, ancient Roman version of the famous board game. With the agreement of Hasbro, the company which holds the rights for Monopoly, funds raised will go to a local Hong Kong charity.
