8th French School of Asia Football Tournament – Bangkok 2019

The 2019 edition of the French School of Asia Football Tournament once again kicked off in Bangkok over the long weekend of 4th - 7th April. Similar to last year, FIS HK brought 40 students together from across all campuses to form four teams to challenge for the best French Schools football team across Asia. The students were excited and optimistic but the weight of expectation hung heavy over some of the teams after the success of the HK teams in previous years.

This year the results didn't quite go in our favour with the U18 Boys, U15 Boys and the Girls teams all finishing 6th in their respective competitions. Raphael Merkies in the U18 Boys team won top goal scorer for the tournament. The U13 Boys had a hard-fought tournament finishing 12th overall.  Despite the results, the students showed great resilience, determination and spirit. They celebrated their wins together and held their heads high in defeat. They bonded and mingled across teams, streams and age groups and they all learned, developed and grew in character over the course of the weekend.

A special mention and thank you to the teacher and coaching team who voluntarily gave up their weekend and supported this trip. PE teacher Ms. Georgina Boost, FIS football coach Mr. Adam Bailey and FIS parent Mr. Mark Grainger all worked tirelessly over the weekend coaching, caring for and encouraging the students. This weekend most definitely wouldn't have been feasible without their fantastic levels of enthusiasm and benevolence.
