Brevet mock exams – happening now!
It’s time for the 3ème ritual and the little bit of stress that goes with the brevet blanc (mock brevet exam)! Our students are about to fill in their first exam papers.
On Monday 26th February, the written “mock” exams for French and then Mathematics will take place. And on Tuesday 27th February, it will be time for History, Geography, Moral and Civic Education, and Sciences.
The “brevet” was created in 1947. Initially called the “brevet d’études du premier cycle du second degré” (BEPC), it is now known as the Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB). It has undergone numerous adjustments throughout its existence.
- 1947: creation of the “brevet d’études du premier cycle du second degré”. This replaced the brevet élémentaire, which gave access to basic administrative positions. The decree instituting it stipulated that it offered its holders “at least equivalent advantages”. It was replaced in 1959 by the brevet d’études générales. Initially written, the diploma was obtained on the basis of continuous assessment between 1978 and 1985.
- 1988: creation of the Diplôme National du Brevet DNB as we know it today. Its aim is to “assess the knowledge and skills acquired at the end of secondary school”. It comprises three series: collège, technologique and professionnelle. It is awarded on the basis of a written examination with national subjects, and an in-course assessment during the third year of secondary school.
- Today, an oral test is added to the diploma, for a total of 100 points.
We wish our students from the TKO and BPR campuses every success in this first attempt! The official DNB exams will take place at the end of June.
