LCE, SE, again with the acronyms!

Language courses – European Languages and Cultures (LCE) and European Section (SE).

Secondary school students in the French Stream who are looking for English language reinforcement can choose to study in the European Section.

In College, the European Languages and Cultures (LCE) option is an optional English course open to all college students who are not enrolled in the American International Section. All are welcome, the only criterion being motivation.

LCE is not a language course. Students develop and strengthen their aural and oral English language skills, as well as their research and presentation skills, while developing skills in other areas through interdisciplinary team projects. For example, 6ème and 5ème students on both campuses benefit from science and drama classes taught entirely in English.

Project-based teaching is at the heart of the LCE section. The topics covered can be integrated into the educational pathways (citizenship, arts, future pathways) and the sustainable development component of school curricula.

In 3ème, the LCE option is valued in the validation of Socle Commun (common grounding) skills, enabling students to acquire up to 20 additional points.

In High School, the European Section offers a European and international perspective, as well as linguistic reinforcement and the teaching of a non-linguistic discipline (or “DNL”). At FIS, the DNL is history-geography, taught in English on themes that complement the curriculum. These courses are added to the regular hours of History-Geography. The teaching approach is student-centered, yet firmly rooted in the school environment.

The European section leads to a specific oral test as part of the Baccalauréat. This can lead to points being awarded, and above all to a “mention européenne” on the student’s diploma.
