FIS Model UN II Conference
On the 18-19th of November, the second iteration of FIS’ Model United Nations conference was hosted at TKO campus, organised by Olwen Brown (Y12A), Juliette Deiss (Y12A) and Gaspard Cabaret (2B). Alongside Mr Shum and Mr Brady, the conference welcomed 180 delegates, chairs, and FISH (FIS helpers) as participants, with over 50 participants studying at FIS. Over the two days, delegates engaged in rigorous debate in an attempt to find resolutions to some of our volatile world’s most pressing issues. Model United Nations is an excellent activity for internationally minded students to find a platform for discussions about international affairs. With a wide range of committees modelled, students had the opportunity to discuss many different issues, including the situation in the Maghreb region, and the ethics of genome editing.
The conference welcomed Mr Shewehki, the Consulate General of Egypt in Hong Kong and Macao, to share with the young diplomats in attendance some insight about international relations.
The Model UN program at FIS is one of our largest clubs, and is well suited for students interested in politics and speech. To join, and be able to participate in other conferences in Hong Kong, you are encouraged to attend a Model UN club meeting, held on Thursday at 5:30 on BPR campus.
