Meeting with a Nobel Prize winner

Issue 39: 6/10/2023 , Blue Pool Road News (Reflections and Achievements) Y13, Terminale , ,

It’s not everyday you can have the opportunity to meet a Nobel Prize winner. This week, over which the 2023 Nobel prize winners were revealed, physics students of both French and International streams, accompanied by their (lucky) science teachers, had the honour to meet and interact with Pr Serge Haroche, 2012 PhysicsNobel prize winner. For half an hour, Mr Haroche opened up on his life as a scientist, and shared with the assembly inspiring words on his field of research, quantum mechanics, making it simple but still very intriguing.

He also gave some advice for our students intending to become scientists such as «find a topic that you are curious about» and «do a lot of mathematics», and was delighted to notice that the audience was filled with as many girls as boys.

Seeing how intently all the students listened to him, we have no doubt he inspired some vocations, on this day that is definitely to remember!
