Communication
“It’s good to talk” was a slogan for a large UK telecommunications company in the 1980’s but it is so much more. It is great advice!
At FIS we encourage communication and use honesty and transparency to find positive solutions and forward-looking pathways.
This term, so far, communication within the community has been thriving and it has been wonderful to be able to return to our favourite form of communication: face-to-face. For example, we have hosted welcome meetings/tours for new families, information evenings for y13 parents, meet the teacher sessions and individual family meetings. We have also had online meetings, telephone calls and emails. There are many more opportunities to talk coming throughout the year. Please keep an eye on The Bulletin, your emails and the Parent Portal (Engage) for upcoming events. We will strive to ensure more timely communication about our events through these means.
Email correspondence is the most popular – from a numerical perspective. International Secondary Vice Principals take action on approximately fifty emails a day and read many more for information.
Email’s popularity is understandable: it is so convenient as an email can be written anytime and anywhere. If you are contacting us by email, so that we can help you effectively and efficiently (we don’t want to miss anything from you), here is a reminder about who to contact depending on the circumstances:
- Form Tutor – non-subject specific matters.
- Subject related issues – subject teacher (and Leader of Learning for the subject’s department, if further assistance is required).
- Assistant and Vice Principals – further support related to any issue that you have been in touch with the subject teacher, Leader of Learning or Form Tutor about and/or serious or sensitive matters.
- Principal – additional guidance about any of the above.
- Lateness/absences – Vie Scolaire.
- Health – Health Team.
A list of email addresses will be placed on the Parent Portal.
Of course, the key people for us to be communicating with are our students. They have access to a huge amount of information. Everyday they are given verbal information, they receive digital information and they read information from posters around the school. Whilst we encourage their independence and responsibility, it is a good idea for you to be discussing all this with them as it will help them process the information and keep you in the loop.
It definitely is “good to talk” and healthy communication is a great way to strengthen our diverse and engaged FIS community #ProudtobeFIS
