Professional Learning Communities (PLC) Showcase Day

Issue 30: 2/6/2023 Blue Pool Road News (Reflections and Achievements) ,

As educators, it’s important to be experimenting with new approaches that are being discussed in educational research. This process of action research is important for ensuring high quality learning in the classroom and an adaptive approach to personal professional development.

On the morning of Friday, 19th May, the International Stream Secondary staff participated in a continuing professional development event that acted as the culmination of a year of pedagogical action research. Out of a total 12 groups that worked on various research projects this academic year, five groups presented their findings that they compiled, analyzed and reflected upon over the course of the academic year, with the following topics:

  1. Applying the concept of learner portfolios outside of the IB programme
  2. Developing approaches to build student confidence and pleasure for reading in preparation for IB French A
  3. Incorporating different retrieval strategies in the classroom
  4. Concept-based learning in IMYC
  5. Using building blocks to foster understanding and application in the second language classroom

Each presentation was highly informative and acted as an excellent illustration of the dedication of FIS teachers towards the best education for students and their commitment to continuous improvement as educators.
