It’s so good to be outside the classroom again

Issue 17: 3/2/2023 From the Principal

This week saw both years 7 and 9 students move off the BPR site to enjoy their learning elsewhere, reflecting the growing confidence that schools in Hong Kong have to take students off campus in the knowledge that it is safer to do so for students and staff alike. Mr Hill and Mrs Tordoir took the year 9 students to our TKO campus to work with a visiting drama specialist for the day, and a big thanks to Mrs O’Brien for organising this experience.

The year 7 went to Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden in Tai Po as their Entry Point to the next theme in their IMYC studies this year: Balance. Mr Day, Mr Echevarria, Ms Lai, Ms Guo, Mr Livesey, Mrs Byrne and myself really enjoyed being in the wonderful natural surroundings on the 150 acre site. The students were guided by volunteers to the farm, who led them through hands-on activities which focused on the balance of nature in the area of animals, organic farming and composting landfill waste. I would highly recommend that you make the trip over there with your families at some point if you have not already been, as it is a real learning experience for everyone.

We are now turning our attention to the rest of the year, and really want to organise a CAS activities week during the last week of the school year (26th – 30th June 2023). You will be receiving a survey from Ms Marshall asking you about your thoughts on the sort of activities/costs you are prepared to support for your child(ren), and we intend to let the data that we collect guide us in putting together a programme that suits as many families as possible. I would ask that you look out for the notice on Engage, and complete the very short survey so that we can get a full picture of what is achievable.
