BANYAN LEAF & BIRDS MATTER!
“No bird soars too high if he soars with his own wings.” – William Blake
In the frame of “French high schools around the world Week” (La Semaine des Lycées Francais du Monde) Year 10 & 11 also discovered the local birds of Hong Kong and they had to paint a chosen one, on a banyan leaf with realism and sensitivity. Hong Kong has around 550 bird species, accounting for one-third of the bird species found in China. This is because Hong Kong has a wide range of ideal bird habitats, including wetlands, grasslands, forests and coastal areas. And because Hong Kong lies on the East-Asian Australasian Flyway, many migratory birds stopover in Hong Kong in wintertime during their long journeys. Sparrows, spotted doves, Red-whiskered bulbul, Oriental Magpie Robin, are commonly seen around Hong Kong, as they can be commonly seen in urban areas. In rural areas, White-throated Kingfisher and Little Egret can be seen regularly in wetlands. This is your turn to guess which bird is painted on each banyan leaf…
