A season to be jolly……and get some rest!

Issue 13: 16/12/2022 From the Principal

Sitting in my office this week, meeting potential new students that are looking to join FIS Secondary from August 2023, it struck me how positive the conversations that I am having now are in comparison to December 2021!  I am able to talk about all the great holistic experiences that are now able to take place, rather than repeatedly saying “In normal times” or “Before Covid…” Of course the further good news of even less restrictions for travellers returning to Hong Kong has also played into this relative utopia that we are now experiencing as opposed to the last couple of years or so.

One thing that does remain, however, is the fatigue that comes after a long term at school.  During the online learning it was a different tiredness, born out of long days in front of a screen and an inability to be as physically active as before.  Now we find staff & students tired from the increasing amount of activities that they can engage in with the return of face-to-face learning on campus.  Therefore I would ask that as parents you allow your children to rest during the holidays, catch up with family & friends.  The academic work can start again in January, but for now it’s pens (or keyboards?) down!  We have urged our teachers not to set work for this break, so that students are allowed to recuperate.  Year 11 & 13 have Mock examinations after the CNY break in early February 2023.  They need a rest too!

So it remains for me to thanks the whole IS Secondary community – staff, students & parents – for all their support in reengaging with face-to-face learning once again, and contributing to a very successful first term of the academic year 2022/23.  We wish everyone who is travelling a bon voyage, and those staying in Hong Kong a very merry festive season.
