A great start to the Academic Year 2022/23 in IS Secondary

Issue 01: 16/9/2022 Blue Pool Road From the Principal Y7, Y8, Y9, Y10, Y11, Y12, Y13

It has been a wonderful start to the new academic year for all the students, both those returning to us and those who are new, in the Secondary section of the International stream.  We are now starting to see the fruits of all the hard work done by our community to spread the good word about the excellent, caring environment that students receive at FIS with the first cohort of three year 7 classes (we have traditionally been a two form entry).  On top of this we also welcomed more year 10 students to the school this year, making a total of 60 in the year group.  It has been a pleasure to see all these new students settling into their classes over the past week or so.

On top of welcoming many new families to FIS, we have also been fortunate to bring twelve new staff members into the fold to work with your children. So I expect that over the coming year you will start to hear the names of these new teachers:  Mr Chan (Mathematics), Ms Guo (Mandarin), Mrs Byrne (Biology & ESS), Ms Moran (Spanish & French), Mr Joly (French), Mrs Timsit-Paulin (French & Spanish), Mrs Tordoir (English), Mr Hill (English & Drama), Mr Day (Physical Education), Mrs Wimbush (Physical Education), Mr Echivarria (Mathematics & Chemistry) and Mrs Pescod (Physics & Science).  We are excited to have them with us at FIS, and know that they will make a lasting impact on the children that they teach over their years with us in the school.

We have also started to hear from many of the departing IBDP class of 2022, who have accepted offers from many great universities around the world.  They all did FIS proud with their amazing above world-average results, and we wish them well in the next part of their educational journey.  It has also been great to welcome back so many year 11 students from 2021/22 onto the IB programme, and welcome in 10 new students.  Again the IGCSE results were amongst the best in the world, and trend seen over the past 12 years where FIS averages close on 70% A*/A grades.

Finally it has been a pleasure for me to start working with both Mr Bonin as the incoming Head of School and Mr Pierru as the new Proviseur of the French Secondary at BPR over the first few weeks.  Already I am confident that this new team will bring about much more collaboration amongst students from both streams, and am excited to explore these opportunities in the weeks and months ahead.
