Students Lead Climate Action and Food Waste Management Projects
There is no greater natural resource than our young people. We are counting on their vision, passion, and creativity to launch us all into a much greener future!
On 02 February our student Sustainability Ambassadors did just that when they met with Martial Jaume (FIS’ Head of Sustainability) and members of the Sustainability committee at the BPR Campus to officially kick-off student-led climate action and food waste management projects at school.
French stream students from Year Groups 6e (eq. Y7) to seconde (eq. Y11) will pave the way for greater student involvement, implementation of climate action projects, and greater peer education to create change in our campuses. The projects focus on key areas of reducing our carbon footprint and better uses of resources, namely:
- Reduce energy consumption – how to enjoy and promote cleaner energy, reduce consumption, and educate our school community to join our actions daily and consistently;
- Increase carbon sink – how to mitigate climate action by planting trees in our French Forest in Thailand;
- Reduce school buses CO2 emission – how to reduce emission of GHGs with circular economy initiatives;
- Food waste management – how to address food waste at FIS and integrate food waste into holistic gardening projects at the school.
These initiatives are addressing UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
- SDG2: Zero Hunger
- SDG 4: Quality Education
- SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
- SDG 12: Responsible Production and Consumption
- SDG 13: Climate Action
Our projects’ targets are:
- Term 2: Discuss, plan and propose action plan
- Term 3: Implement action plan and measure first achievement
- Set targets for new school year (2023-24)
We are extremely excited to be in the passenger’s seat and witness how our students will lead us into a new green era.
