2017 IGCSEs – student comments

This year, 57% of FIS students achieved at least 8 A*/A grades with almost half awarded 9 or more A*/A grades.  Congratulations to everyone!

You can read the comments of our top five students below …

Cloe Cheung – 11A* and one A

When I saw my results, I was so happy and excited that I fell off my chair. After viewing them, I felt confidence and motivation renew inside me. I know that I wouldn’t have gotten such results without the endless support of my teachers and family. The IGCSEs helped me develop and improve my time management skills as well as the importance of balancing academics and my interests. I am certain that these exams will prepare me well for the upcoming IB as well as the future!

Elena Meganck – 9A* and one A

Over the summer, I daydreamed about the simultaneously dreaded and exhilarating day my results would be posted online. And as dull and stereotypical it might seem, I hadn’t predicted my results to be as good as they turned out to be.

I switched to the International Section at the start of Year 10. I hadn’t learnt the same material as the students who’d been there for some time; I needed to catch up if I wanted to get anywhere. Compared to where I stood at the end of Y10, I have progressed tremendously, simply by realising that if I had the will to strive towards something, to truly want it, I created within myself an unlimited ability to improve.

The greatest reward wasn’t the happiness I received from this conspicuous success, but the pride and delight I saw in my family’s eyes as I told them the good news.

Sarah Page – 9 straight A*

Overall, I am quite pleased with my results, perhaps I could have done better in biology and chemistry where I lost a couple of easy marks to careless mistakes, nonetheless these grades are encouraging going into IB. I noticed that reviewing previously learnt material continuously throughout Y11 made revision a lot easier when it came to the exams – thus definitely a study habit I will deploy in Y12!

Layla Seaver – 9 straight A*

The most important thing IGCSE has helped me with is managing stress when taking an exam. I’m sure this skill will help me a lot during IB, university and for many years after. In addition, my IGCSE grades were a positive reinforcement that I could continue studying the subjects I am passionate about in IB, when I otherwise may not have had the confidence to do so.

Esme Seaver – 9 straight A*

I was very pleased with the outcome of my IGCSEs. I would like to thank all my teachers for helping me achieve these results. IGCSEs taught be how important sleep and organisation are during exams. This will help me in the future to make a more effective study routine.
