Close to 80 3è students (BPR & TKO) went to the Stanley Cemetery on Friday, December 13th as part of the ceremony in tribute to Free France, organised by the ‘Comité de Hong Kong du Souvenir français de Chine’ and the Consulat Général de France à Hong Kong et Macao.
This commemoration ceremony was rich in emotion, with the reading of the names of the people who gave their lives to fight against totalitarianism, the reading of Paul Eluard’s poem ‘Liberté’ (Freedom) and the singing of ‘Le Chant des Partisans’ by all the students.
The History & Geography department extends its gratitude to Mr. Costantini, Music teacher, for his great preparation of the song, to Mr. Drémeaux, former History & Geography teacher at FIS, as a representative of the French rembembrance, for his historic presentation of this event and to Gérald Herbet for putting the video together.

Le devoir de mémoire n’est pas un vain mot !
La commémoration de vendredi était à la fois simple mais intense et respectueuse envers ceux qui se sont battus au nom de la liberté.
M. François Drémeaux a su trouver les mots pour nous faire prendre conscience que nous n’étions pas réunis en ce lieu pour pleurer les morts mais pour les honorer par notre hommage. Le cadre verdoyant et calme du cimetière semblait mettre en valeur ses propos.
Après ceux-ci, les officiers ont déposé des fleurs et ont exécuté le salut militaire sur un fond de trompette. Ce moment très solennel fut pour moi le plus fort de la cérémonie. Celle-ci s’est terminée par le Chant des Partisans, chanté par tous comme une preuve de l’engagement avec lequel nous avons participé à la commémoration.
Ce fut un instant mémorable dans ma vie de collégienne.
