FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

French International School highlights photography at an amazing portrait exhibition “En Mosaïque”!

[Hong Kong – 20 November 2017]

On Friday 17 November 2017 the French International School (FIS) campus at Hung Hom was turned into a giant Art Gallery as huge portrait photographs of 400 students and staff went on display. This fantastic exhibition included an enormous collective work which covered the entire playground!

The “En Mosaïque” exhibition brought together all the classes at the Hung Hom campus, French and International streams, as well as all campus staff – a total of 400 people aged between 5 and 63 years old! The idea behind the event was “A montage of expressions: looks and individual portraits for a unifying collective artwork; a freeze frame; a glimpse into life imprinted for memory; a team that will create our new school.”

Inspired by the work of French artist JR and produced in partnership with the Inside Out Project, the exhibition was intended to demonstrate continuity between the closing of the FIS Hung Hom campus at the end of this school year and the opening of the new FIS campus in Tseung Kwan O in September 2018.  JR created the InsideOut Project in order to share his stories and identities; FIS therefore worked with InsideOut Project on these individual portrait posters which were printed in their workshops in the USA.

This exhibition was for one night only and Hung Hom was transformed with 400 posters in the style of JR on display on walls, in corridors, in stairwells and, above all, on the ground of the playground! Each class had also prepared a mini exhibition about portraits which was shared on the night.

The exhibition was part of the first ever “Semaine des Lycées Français du Monde“ (Week of French World Schools) organised by the AEFE (the Agency For French Teaching Abroad).

About French International School (FIS)

FIS was established in 1963 as one of the first international schools in Hong Kong. The school offers two streams: the French and International Streams, preparing students towards certification in the French national examination, the French Baccalaureate or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. In 1988, FIS became the first in Hong Kong to be authorised as an IB World School.

The school will open a new state of the art eco-campus in Tseung Kwan O in September 2018. Currently, the school is one of the largest international through schools in Hong Kong and welcomes over 2,600 students from Kindergarten/Moyenne Section to Year 13/Terminale, representing 40 different nationalities, across four campuses in Happy Valley, Jardine’s Lookout, Chai Wan and Hung Hom.

The school’s mission is to provide, together with families, a nurturing, culturally diverse community that inspires our young people to realize their true potential as confident, independent learners and responsible global citizens with moral values and integrity
