FISCA Events | Book and Uniform Fair
Dear FIS Community,
On May 31, FISCA and the Palace Museum presented an exclusive event, joined by its inaugural director, Dr Louis Ng.
The event had a great turnout from the FIS community and was very well-received. During the dialogue between Dr Ng and Joanne Chan (a parent at the Jardine’s Lookout campus), Dr Ng recounted the origin of the Hong Kong Palace Museum and his vision for it to become an international museum drawing collaborations with other museums around the world.
Dr Ng highlighted their ongoing and deep cooperation with France, including the July 2022 inaugural exhibition, “Grand Gallop: Art and Culture of the Horse,” which showcased pieces from the Palace Museum and the Louvre. In 2023, another major French exhibition, “Cartier and Women,” was also staged.
Tickets are now on sale for an exciting and unique exhibition entitled “The Adorned Body: French Fashion And Jewellery 1770–1910” from the Musée Des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, opening at the end of June.
Dr Ng also revealed exclusive details about an upcoming collaboration with the Palace of Versailles, which is yet to be announced to the public. This exhibition is scheduled for December 2024 and will explore the significant cultural and artistic exchanges between China and France in the 17th and 18th centuries. This was a particularly important period where China and France’s friendship flourished under the mutual admiration between Chinese Emperor Kangxi and French Emperor Louis XIV for each other’s countries. There is even a handwritten letter from King Louis XIV to the Kangxi Emperor penned in 1688, now in the archives of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Hong Kong Palace Museum offers a wonderful platform for cultural dialogue between China and the world. Its ambitious exhibition schedule and innovative programming position the Hong Kong Palace Museum to become a truly global cultural destination.
Thank you to Joanne Chan for initiating and hosting the event, and to everyone who attended with your positive feedback. We’d also like to thank the FIS Marketing and Communication Team for sponsoring the event and Bain Marie for providing the food and drinks. We look forward to continually building a strong FIS community together!
