Philippines Coral Ecology and Marine Research trip – May 2024

Are you an avid diver who wants to learn more and also contribute to conservation of the seas?
Coral Reef ecology and marine research (to possibly include PADI Open Water dive certification if required) in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, Philippines
Carried out in conjunction with Atlantis Dive Resorts and Silliman University in Dumaguete, the program encompasses coral reef ecology and conservation, fish identification, and cooperation with a local high school that provides dive training and marine research programs to local students. A trip to Apo Island is included – Apo Island is world famous for its coral reefs and abundant turtle population!
Qualifications/requirements
- Open Water diver with recent dive experience (i.e. dives within the past 12 months), OR an option for PADI Open Water course work in Hong Kong with open water dives in Dumaguete;
- FS: 4e-Terminale; IS: Y9-13
- Enthusiasm, maturity, a desire to learn
Note: this is a marine research trip. We will be active every day, doing 2-3 dives along with analysis and classroom learning.
Provisional schedule:
- May 18-23
- Depart HK Saturday 18 May
- May 19-22 – diving and research
- Return Thursday 23rd May
Costs
(Final, exact amount dependent on student numbers, flight schedule and costs, exchange rates), including all flights, transfers, means and diving costs.

- Dive insurance (optional): either USD40 (single trip) or USD100 (annual)
