Activities: How to Recycle in Hong Kong
- Student Video
Our Green Prefects are producing a video to help their schoolmates use the school’s recycling bins. This video will be showcased at the canteen and in the classrooms during GREEN WEEK.
- Student Talks and Games
Throughout Green Week, different year groups will participate in expert-led, age-appropriate discussions and games around consumption and recycling habits. We hope they will continue these discussions (and behaviours) at home — do ask them about it!
- Online Parent Workshop
Waste management expert and FIS parent Helga Vanthournout will host an interactive talk about the ins and outs of using Hong Kong’s recycling systems, followed by ample time for Q & A.
- Date: 25th April 2023
- Time: 19:00
- Online URL: https://meet.google.com/xsn-ycew-psw
- Participants: FIS families and community
- Recycling Station for Small Appliances
- Date: 24th – 28th April 2023
- Collection drop-off point: TKO Entrance Lobby
- Items suitable for drop off: Phones, toasters, hair dryers, laptops (already formatted), rechargeable batteries, etc.
- Field trips to “GREEN@Community” Recycling Stations
Six classes from TKO will visit the Sai Kung Recycling Station in Po Lam, and their JL counterparts will visit the one in Wanchai. Locations of Hong Kong’s recycling stations can be found here. During this visit, the students will drop off the collected small appliances (see point above).
- Fashion Contest of Recyclables
And finally, as we continue to say NO to fast fashion, our students will collect waste materials to create an outfit or fashion accessory they will wear on 28th April for our Eco-Fashion Show during recess. The most creative students will win a prize.
As you can see, infinite ideas exist on exploring sustainability at our campuses and Every Action Matters!
A big congratulations to our Vie Scolaire teams at TKO and JL for initiating and organising this amazing GREEN WEEK and to all teachers, students and parents involved in making it happen!
