Beyond academics

ARTS beyond the canvas

At FIS, we believe that art is a powerful language of both personal expression and social impact. Our program encompasses art in all its forms, moving far beyond the initial act of creation. We empower students to take their work from the studio to the spotlight—providing professional opportunities for exhibitions, public performances, and charity auctions. By sharing their craft with the community, students learn the value of their creative voice and its ability to inspire change and support meaningful causes.

Below are some examples of art events organised by FIS every year.

  Visual Arts

Arthouse
exhibition

Primary students regularly display their artwork, with a major celebration during Art Week on the JL, CW, and TKO campuses, open to parents. At secondary level, BPR and TKO host Art House, showcasing IB and French Baccalauréat Art students’ works in a private exhibition for the entire FIS community.

Inktober

Jake Parker created Inktober in 2009 as a challenge to improve his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. It has since grown into a worldwide endeavour with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year.

The principle: a list of words for each day of October and the challenge of sketching a drawing every day.

AEFE Photo
Competition

The “Territoires d’Asie et d’Océanie” photo contest, organized by AEFE, invites FIS students to capture the cultural and natural diversity of Asia and Oceania. It promotes creativity, intercultural discovery, and artistic expression, with winning photos featured in AEFE exhibitions and publications.

Collabs with established
artists

Collaborating with established artists allows FIS students to gain firsthand insight into professional creative practices, fostering inspiration, artistic growth, and real-world connections that enrich their learning and broaden their horizons.

Art for a good cause

Each year, we showcase our students’ artwork in a special exhibition and sell the pieces to support a chosen charity. This event celebrates creativity while teaching compassion and community responsibility. Every sale turns art into impact—helping others through the power of young imagination.

Cinema

Meeting cinema professionals

Students meet actors and directors through workshops and guest sessions. These encounters offer real-world insights into storytelling and filmmaking, inspire creativity, build confidence, and open career possibilities. Connecting with professionals enriches learning, bridges classroom education with industry experience, and supports meaningful artistic and personal growth.

ISDFF

The International Sustainable Film Festival, organized by FIS, empowers students to create short films on global sustainability challenges. Their participation is unique—combining filmmaking skills with real-world impact. Through storytelling, students not only learn production, narrative, and collaboration but also become active voices for change, fostering awareness and inspiring action on important environmental and social issues.

Music

FIS Choir

Each year, our students have the occasion to perform in front of large audience at major events such as  : HK Disneyland, Standard Chartered “Arts in the Park” & Francophonie Opening Ceremony at Central Library.

Lunchtime concerts

These lunchtime concerts provide students with a fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas,
gain insights into each other’s musical skills, enhance their performance abilities,
and build self-confidence as musicians.

Seasonal concerts

Each class in Early Years and Primary prepares a special Christmas concert, delighting families who are warmly invited to celebrate the season. Secondary students bring festive cheer by organizing flashmobs during both Christmas and Chinese New Year. At community events like the Family Fun Fair and our Garage Sale, students showcase their talents through live musical performances.

Drama

Drama ECA

Students have the opportunity to both attend theatre performances and take part in drama themselves.

They learn to use their body to express emotions and perform. They also study language and literature and learn the art of oral expression.

Theatre play in Mandarin

As part of our immersive learning approach, students have the opportunity to perform a play in the foreign languages they are learning. This experience not only deepens their language skills and cultural understanding, but also encourages them to step outside their comfort zone, fostering confidence and creativity.

End-of-Year play

Throughout the year, students collaborate with their teachers to produce an entire show from start to finish. From writing the script and rehearsing to designing costumes, they take ownership of every aspect. The end-of-year performance in front of a full auditorium is not just a showcase of talent, but a transformative, life-changing experience.
