Students get involved after Typhoon Mangkhut

Two days after the devastation caused by Typhoon Mangkhut, students in Seconde, Ecology and Territories, volunteered for a beach clean-up at Stanley.

Led by their teacher and at the heart of a large spontaneous community effort, they helped return this magnificent place to its former glory.

During 2 hours, they were able to fill around 10 rubbish bags with all different kinds of unusual items:

broken kayak, stainless steel gates, clothes, ropes…etc which were littering the beach, tangled up in trees and other plants -  chaos!

Unfortunately many fine pieces of plastic, extremely damaging to biodiversity, were also among the rubbish.

On a more positive note, a sail from the neighbouring boat club was recovered by our students and returned to its owner.

Well done everybody!
