The French International School (FIS) is delighted to announce that its Year 11 students have excelled in the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Examinations.

The Cambridge IGCSE programme is a universally recognized qualification among international schools and universities worldwide which aims to provide learners with a broad and balanced mix of practical experience and theoretical knowledge. This year, 57% of FIS students achieved at least 8 A*/A grades with almost half awarded 9 or more A*/A gradesThree students recorded 9 straight A*, one student achieved 9A* plus 1A and another excelled with 11A* plus 1A grade.

Furthermore, 50% of all IGCSE examinations taken by FIS students were awarded at A*, 78% were awarded at A*/A and 97% were awarded at A*- C. These results are far beyond the 2016 UK national average of 20.7% for A*/A and 66.9% for A*- C.

“Congratulations to alI our IGCSE graduates! Their dedication and hard work over the last 2 years along with the support provided by teachers and parents have produced these excellent results” applauded Ian Clayton, Head of International Stream.

These students will now progress to the IB Diploma Programme in Years 12 and 13. Ian Clayton believes that the IGCSE programme helps students build a strong foundation for the IB Diploma Programme, in which FIS students have consistently excelled in since 1988 when the school became the first in Hong Kong to be authorised as an IB World School.

All members of the FIS Class of 2017 successfully obtained the full IB Diploma and celebrated achieving an average score of 37.5 points, 7.45 points above the world average. 33% of FIS students received 40 points or above with 1 student awarded the maximum score of 45 points, an outstanding accomplishment shared with only 217 others worldwide!
