[Press Release] COUTURE Fashion show a huge success at French International School

The evening was a sell-out with more than 300 tickets snapped up and all money collected was in support of Redress, the Hong Kong NGO advocating for sustainable fashion through original means such as their Eco-chic awards.

The COUTURE team made it a priority to include other international schools and celebrated brands as well as many talented student designers and performers who created an entertaining, all-inclusive show supporting sustainable development in the fashion industry. The audience enjoyed collections from 5 brands, 4 amazing performances, 2 student designers – Liza Siqueira (FIS) and Christine Ra (South Island School) – and the Fashion Trophy 2017 competition which showcased 30 amazing looks inspired by famous artists and made of recycled materials! Photos can be seen here.

The lucky winners of the Best Designer Award were Chloe Lenoir and Marie Gabrielle de Beauvais, two talented student designers from FIS Year 12 (première), featuring a beautiful dress inspired by Van Gogh’s Starry Night.  We are delighted to announce that the six category winners have all been given the chance of an internship at Redress! A huge thank you to Redress for this amazing opportunity not only for the students but also for FIS to continue to increase awareness about sustainable development in Hong Kong.

COUTURE has been a long term project including a team of over 20 students from both the French and International streams. The idea was conceived by Isabelle Bezançon, Head of the Art Department at FIS, who was adamant that a professional fashion show would expand students’ horizons and allow for additional support of sustainable development, so important for an eco-school. Student Head Manager of COUTURE, Marie Haddad, set plans in motion in September recruiting a suitable team for this elite event. Over the course of 9 months, the organized and hardworking team put in many hours, striving to create the best school Fashion event.

In addition to the FIS student and staff team, plans for the show included international schools and large influential luxury brands such as Hermès and Guerlain, looking to support increased awareness of sustainable development. From model castings to brand meetings, the team encountered all walks of life when planning COUTURE and were able to grow their skills in different aspects of event management.

The hard work of all involved resulted in a fabulous evening enjoyed by all in attendance.

About French International School (FIS)

FIS was established in 1963/64 as one of the first international schools in Hong Kong. The school offers two streams: the French and International Streams, preparing students towards certification in the French national examination, the French Baccalaureate or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. In 1988, FIS became the first in Hong Kong to be authorised as an IB World School.

The school will open a new state of the art eco-campus in Tseung Kwan O in September 2018. Currently, the school is one of the largest international through schools in Hong Kong and welcomes over 2,700 students from Reception/Moyenne Section to Year 13/Terminale, representing 40 different nationalities, across four campuses in Happy Valley, Jardine’s Lookout, Chai Wan and Hung Hom.

The school’s mission is to provide, together with families, a nurturing, culturally diverse community that inspires our young people to realize their true potential as confident, independent learners and responsible global citizens with moral values and integrity.
