No Time to Waste: Tackling the Plastic Challenge in Hong Kong

10 June 2019News, Uncategorized

Did your children enjoy a glass of milk or juice today? Most likely these are packaged in liquid cartons (the so-called Tetra Paks). This kind of packaging amounts to an astonishing 25,000 tonnes that Hong Kong throws away each year. These materials are recyclable, but sadly not so in Hong Kong — until recently!

Globally we are facing a massive waste problem that can no longer be ignored. Come meet Guest Speaker Dana Winograd, Director of Operations at the non-profit organisation Plastic Free Seas, to learn about plastic pollution and other waste issues, and how we, as individuals and a school community, have some powerful solutions within our reach.

*NEW* FIS Green Committee will trial liquid carton collection for recycling in Term 2. Collection instructions will be given at the talk.

The event, co-organised by the Events Committee and the Green Committee, includes a short video, talk and Q&A.

Please save the date and bring your families along!
