CP students at Chai Wan have green fingers!
First stage: digging a big hole to create rich soil to give plenty of nourishment for plants to grow. They had to mix the soil with wood, dead leaves and compost brought from home by the children.
They then planted different seeds for carrots, radishes, green beans, lettuce and kale. They planted young tomato and squash plants. A little tip to keep away insects – plant calendula flowers and basil!
Alternating, the children took care of their crops which required patience and responsibility: watering, weeding, chasing away insects and snails which tried to eat our leaves!
It took a month for the little gardeners to harvest their first vegetables. They were able to taste their own lettuce and radishes at the canteen … and soon their first tomatoes!
