Lower Secondary (Y7-Y9)
A broad and balanced curriculum is offered to allow students transitioning from primary to continue with familiar subjects while embracing new learning challenges at a different campus.
Students have exposure to a wide range of subjects from Year 7 to Year 9 from which they make their IGCSE selections for Year 10. Academic work is underpinned by a strong pastoral programme encouraging the development of communication and collaboration skills, creativity and independence.

Message from the Head of Secondary
Welcome to the International Stream – Secondary School.
During the lower secondary years, our aim is to provide students with the foundations for their academic success and personal growth. A dedicated and experienced staff work to ensure students are happy and engaged in the excellent learning environment. We aim to instil in our students a love of learning and the importance of self-discipline as well as respect for the members of the community.
At FIS, we work hard to develop the whole student and while our academic record is excellent, we also place great value on the personal development of our students who are encouraged to discover the world around them and explore their own potential.
We are very lucky to be part of a community made up of families and staff from different backgrounds and cultures offering a broad perspective on the world we live in. Our close relationship with the French Stream ensures that our students are exposed the French language and culture on a daily basis.
We are very proud of our students and their achievements and look forward to seeing what this year brings.
About the Lower Secondary School
During Year 7 to 9, our students continue to follow a broad and balanced curriculum taught in English and based on the English National Curriculum with enhancements for our international setting. Subjects studied are: Art & Design; Drama; English; French; Maths; MFL (Latin or Mandarin or Spanish); Geography; History; Information Tech; Music; Physical Education and Sciences.
In addition, the International Stream has developed a comprehensive Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE) programme to help nurture happy, healthy and confident young people. We also believe in the value of CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) and integrate it as part of the school’s ethos; this allows lower secondary students to voluntarily join and support great causes - Kindness Week to raise funds for the HK charity Food Angels, for example - and teachers incorporate the concept of creativity, activity and community engagement (service) in their courses.
During Year 9, students select their IGCSE options and embark on the 2 year IGCSE course in Year 10.
