Arts & Music

The Arts are a fabulous means to broaden students' experiences and develop their creativity and confidence.

Our academic curriculum is enhanced by creative and performing arts activities. Throughout the year, the students have numerous opportunities to participate in art activities, concerts and performances such as end of year shows, Christmas concerts, Christmas Carols at St John’s Cathedral, Orchestra and Choir, Drama Club.

Art Exhibitions

Every year, each campus turns into a beautiful art gallery exhibiting artworks created by Primary and Secondary students. The Visual Arts courses of the IBDP and the French Baccalaureate encourage students to challenge their own creativity and cultural boundaries

Several art events take place throughout the school year and the entire school community is invited to the openings to celebrate the artistic talents of our students:

For Primary there's an Art Walk in May at Jardine’s Lookout and an Art Week in June at Hung Hom and Chai Wan.

For Secondary, at Blue Pool Rd, there's Art House in February / March and the IB and Terminale Visual Arts Exhibition in June. The Art House is also an opportunity for the community to invest in students’ works with part of the proceeds being donated to the ADA ( Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong). The FIS Culture & Art Fund supports this type of event inside the school.

Couture is an annual event where students from both French and International Streams showcase their talents: fashion designers, dancers, musicians, and singers perform on stage in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

During the fashion show, main event of the night, secondary students unveil amazing outfits designed using various recycled materials (not fabric!) during their art classes. Couture is also a way to raise awareness about important environmental issues in our society.

In 2017, 31 creations were presented by designers from FIS and other international schools in Hong Kong. They were all competing for the 2017 Trophées de la Mode.

The proceeds from the evening are donated to charities supported by FIS. In 2017, students chose to support the association REDRESS.

At FIS, introduction to theatre plays an important role in both the school’s curriculum as well as extra-curricular activities. Each year, the drama club allows secondary students to get involved in all aspects of planning and acting one or more plays.

In 2016, the French theatre company “Les Enfants Terribles" came to teach performing arts to French Stream-Troisieme class giving them excellent first hand experience and a desire to discover more.

"This workshop allowed us to develop our confidence and to express our feelings through different forms of movements." Paul Thomas, Daphné de Quatre-Barbes et Pia Garreau de Labarre, FIS Troisième students.

At FIS, music is taught to all students in Primary and Lower Secondary and they have the chance to be part of a choir throughout their time at school.

Every year, FIS choirs sing in French, English and Chinese at events (Christmas Fair, Christmas Concert, songs at St John’s Cathedral) and end of year shows.
