About the French International School

Established in 1963, the French International School (FIS) is the oldest international school in Hong Kong and was the first school in Hong Kong to offer the IB (in 1988). It is a dynamic educational institution, which welcomes over 2,700 students from around the world. It offers both French and international curricula and is one of the largest French schools in Asia.

FIS currently operates four campuses, next year all of which will accommodate students in the International Stream. Regarding the three primary schools, one is surrounded by greenery in Jardine’s Lookout and another campus is by the sea in Tseung Kwan O and the third is a beautiful campus in Chai Wan.

FIS is a private, not-for-profit organization. In the last five decades, it has grown from a small school with 35 students to one of the most renowned international schools in the region. Its students are from 40 countries speaking some 30 languages – it is a truly multicultural learning environment.

FIS operates two streams, French and International. The French Stream follows the French national curriculum and has approximately 1700 students. The International Stream follows an English and Mathematics curriculum based on the English national curriculum and also the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) and International Primary Curriculum (IPC) leading to the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC) in years 7 and 8, then to IGCSE and finally the International Baccalaureate in Years 12 and 13. It currently has over 1000 students registered. In 2020/21 the international stream successfully went through the IEYC/IPC Accreditation process.

Job Description

The French International School of Hong Kong is a rapidly growing educational organization with 4 sites, more than 2,700 students with around 500 staff. We manage more than 1,500 devices, including PCs, Chromebooks and iPads, across 4 different networks.

We are looking for a Senior Database Administrator to join our team and work in our Blue Pool Road Campus. Candidate will be required to go on the other campuses from time to time.

 

As a Senior Database Administrator, your primary responsibility will be to assist in the system migration from Engage to Eduka, our new educational management platform. Your expertise in SQL database management, query development, API integration, web application development in C# or PHP, and PowerBI will be essential in ensuring a smooth and successful transition.

Responsibilities
  1. System Migration:
  • Assist in the migration process and data mapping from Engage to Eduka
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy throughout the system transition
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, and IT staff
  1. SQL Database Management:
  • Analyse, design, develop, and maintain SQL databases and queries, ensuring optimal performance
  1. API Integration:
  • Integrate APIs and develop scripts to facilitate data exchange between Engage and Eduka
  1. Data Analysis and Reporting:
  • Utilize PowerBI or similar tools to analyze and visualize data
  • Generate reports and dashboards to communicate progress and key metrics to stakeholders
  1. System Testing and Quality Assurance:
  • Conduct thorough testing of the Eduka platform to ensure data accuracy and functionality
  • Identify and report any bugs or issues encountered during the migration process
  1. Report Project Status
  • Report critical incidents to the IT Manager and/or Head of Information Technology, as needed
Requirements

Desired Skills

  • Self-starter, willing to take the initiative
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and detail-oriented
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities with strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong proficiency in SQL database management, query development, and optimization
  • Solid understanding of data analysis concepts and methodologies
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as PowerBI or similar platforms
  • Experience with API integration, web applications and working with external systems
  • Experience in educational management systems, particularly Engage and Eduka, is highly desirable
  • Knowledge in French and/or Cantonese is a plus

 

Qualification

  • Certificate or Diploma in Computer Science or equivalent, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training or work experience.
  • Proven with 2 years’ experience as a programmer, developer or similar role, preferably with experience in database and system migration projects
  • Candidate with less experience may be considered for the role of Programmer Analyst

  • 39 hours per week – Full time (Monday to Friday: 8:30am to 5:30pm)
  • Entitled to 5 weeks of annual leave per year
