Third Place, First-Rate Effort: Honouring Our Team’s Accomplishments
The C grade football team has concluded its season, finishing an impressive 3rd place overall. The team showed great skill and determination throughout the season which reflected in their final standing. The team had a strong start to the group stage winning two games and drawing one. They continued to build on this success throughout the knock-out stage beating SYSS 5-0. SYSS had a few opportunities but a solid defensive performance from captain Louis L, Oscar J, Jo N and Auguste C meant another clean sheet for the team. In the semi-final we were unfortunately beaten on penalties, from the competition winners GSIS. This meant that we would play SPC in the third-place play-off.
The game was on Tuesday 16th May and the boy’s performance was lackadaisical to begin with. However, Rhys B punished SPC with a strong low driven free kick into the bottom corner. Not long after, SPC were awarded a penalty and SPC evened up the score. The players continued the pressure and were rewarded with another Rhys B strike, this time coming from his left foot. The score 2-1 at the break. In the second half, our team continued to dominate play and the introduction of Dan K and Dom S helped the team switch the ball from right to left. The team’s passing and ball control were excellent throughout the second half and Dan K dominated the middle, dribbling the ball forward into the opposition’s box. Shortly after the second half, more goals followed from Thomas C, Jacky H and Arthur C. A great win to conclude the season with third place overall.
One of the team’s standout performances came in a match against SS where they demonstrated their attacking prowess by scoring 10 goals and maintaining a solid defence to secure a clean sheet. Jacky H was excellent on the day, claiming his first hat-trick for FIS. The players’ hard work and dedication to ECA training were evident in all matches where they played some nice football and never gave up.
Overall, the C grade team should be proud of their achievements this season. They have shown that hard work, determination, and teamwork can lead to success both on and off the field. We look forward to seeing their continued growth and success next year.
Finally, a big thank you to our team coaches Mr Lassus and Coach Dani who have been working hard all year coaching the team during ECAs and at competitions. Their guidance and expertise have been invaluable over the past year and they have helped with the success of the team. Cheers guys!
