Education Conferences resume

Issue 22: 17/3/2023 From the Principal

As you read this week’s bulletin, I will be attending workshops at the Asia-Pacific IB conference which takes place in Adelaide, Australia this year. For school leaders these are invaluable opportunities to be exposed to the current thinking not only around the International Baccalaureate Organisation but also features key speakers giving us insights into trends in education.  The theme of the conference for 2023 is “Education for an Inclusive Future” and the keynote speaker will be sharing her research around helping teachers build their capacity to design differentiated learning experiences to support diverse young people so they can thrive.

There is no doubt that this 3 year period of disruption to normal schooling around the globe is having an impact on many things that we take for granted in schools, in particular pedagogical learning preferences and student wellbeing.  In my pre-conference workshop I will be working with fellow leaders/teachers on looking at strategies that focus on removing barriers to learning, understanding learner variability, increasing student agency, developing cultural competency and focusing on inclusion for programme development.  The aim is to bring this work back to FIS, and cascade the knowledge to our teachers of course.

As part of the conference Mr Clayton and I will also be leading a workshop, focusing on leadership and change management.  It is a great opportunity to put FIS on the IB global map, and one which we are greatly looking forward to undertaking.
