Mekong Cup 2023

Issue 15: 13/1/2023 , Blue Pool Road, Tseung Kwan O News (Reflections and Achievements) Y8, Y9, Y10, 5ème, 4ème, 3ème

12 of our students flew to Ho Chi Minh to represent FIS against schools from all over the Asia-Pacific region. The mixed teams competed in climbing, basketball, ultimate frisbee, badminton, acrosport and aquathlon and were composed of one girl and one boy from each grade, from 5ème to 3ème.

After a somewhat difficult start on the first two days: 7th in badminton, then 6th in Aquathlon (swimming then running), the Hong Kong dream team started an exhilarating and unexpected comeback.

In climbing, under the guidance of Coach Corbel, the athletes of the “Fragrant Harbour”, honoured the Bauhinia flag by climbing to 3rd place for the first part of the competition, behind the twirling Singaporeans and the locals of Ho Chi Minh City.

In basketball, the bouncy Coach Delettrez, with great help from Tern Kaplan (Y10B), brought his flock to the final of the morning game, only to lose on a dunk by a 5th grader from Descartes High School in Phnom Penh. Presumably a future NBA star. The climbing and basketball events continue and will reach their finale this afternoon. The last day of activities will be tomorrow with Acrosport and Ultimate frisbee.
