Report on 12th December Board Meeting

Issue 13: 16/12/2022 Strategic Objective:

The Board of FIS meets every third Monday of the month (term time only; due to the upcoming holiday, we met on Monday, 12th December). We are fully committed to demonstrating transparency and aligned with this, we will be continuing to share an update with you here monthly.

Last Monday’s Board meeting focused first on a presentation by our Vice Principals on the development and increase in collaboration and opportunities between the French and International stream. While these cross-stream opportunities have always existed, there has been, under the impulse of our new head of school, a concerted effort since the beginning of the year to further enhance the synergies between our two programs, at the student, faculty, and leadership level. The Board learned about the multiple opportunities our students have to learn and perform together; the common professional development for teachers; the collaboration happening at the middle management level; the regular leadership retreats on the topic; etc.

A second presentation was made on the topic of summer renovations, similar to the one presented at 6th December Conseil Victor Segalen in front of parent, staff, and student representatives. We were excited to see the extent of phase 3 (out of 4) of our Jardine’s and BPR campuses.

A third topic was an initial view on a draft budget for 2023-2024. The final budget proposed by the leadership and reviewed by the Finance committee will be voted on by the Board in February or March 2023, to be presented to the community at the May 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Finally, the Compensation and Benefits committee presented the progress of its work and recommendations for further improvements in this area.

None of the work of the Board on Monday required a vote, except for a technical appointment of our new Board secretary, Mr. Corbett Chellew.
