Season’s Greetings

Issue 13: 16/12/2022

Dear FIS Community,

Today marks the end of the first term of the school year. The spirit of the holiday was definitely present on and off campus in the last few days and weeks: concerts, student projects, quiz night organised by our community association, staff party… While I still have to get used to seeing sleighs, snowgirls, snowboys, and reindeers in what is a rather mild winter weather, it is refreshing to witness and take part in the energy and optimism that inhabits the community this season. I am sharing below a few pictures I took of the early years holiday concerts that, each time, filled us with joy and pride to see our younger students exhibiting their ability to focus and use their multilingual skills.

There is much to look forward to in 2023: FIS will be celebrating its 60th anniversary, a unique opportunity to highlight the achievements of our school, arguably one of the oldest in Hong Kong. In the spirit of my first year Entry Plan I will also, later in the spring, share with the community the learnings gleaned through my extensive outreach to students, faculty, staff, and parents, through countless one-on-one meetings, focus groups, and informal opportunities. These will inform the plans we will be making for the first of the next 60 years of history at FIS.

In the meantime, I want to refer you back to last week’s Bulletin article in which I share the provisional calendar for the 2023-2024 school year. Many thanks to the faculty, staff, parent, and student representatives who took part in the development process that I describe in the article. I call this calendar provisional because, like every year, it has yet to be validated by the AEFE (our French partner agency) next spring. Changes are rare though, and hopefully would only happen at the margins. We hope having this calendar will provide you with the visibility you need.

Much gratitude to all of you for your ongoing trust and partnership as part of the diverse and engaged FIS community. I look forward to seeing you on and off campus in the coming year.

Warm greetings,

Dr. Emmanuel Bonin
Head of School
