A Sustainable Holiday Season for All

Issue 13: 16/12/2022

‘Tis the season to be jolly, but it can also be sustainable! We’ve got a few tips on how to celebrate the season while still considering the planet:

  1. Gift second-hand items
One person’s trash is another person’s treasure!
  1. Cook up a storm with some of the scrumptious vegetarian and meatless options out there
Leftovers often taste even better the next day!
  1. Gift a thoughtful, homemade goodie
While we’re on the topic of cooking, there is nothing better in this world than grandma’s freshly baked cookies!
  1. Gift items that will be used and loved
Do you really need this? Less may be more!
  1. Deck the halls with recovered items
Collecting and assembling funky shapes, shiny colours, and an array of unusual materials into holiday decorations promises fun for the whole family.
  1. Gift an experience
What’s more memorable than a wonderful evening at the theatre, a hands-on cooking class, an eclectic wine-tasting experience or soaring high above Hong Kong’s mountains with your own kite-surfing instructor?
  1. Use sustainable gift wrap
We like reusable bags in festive colours to wrap our gifts. Or, if you’ve recently moved, that packing paper can be flattened out and drawn on by your children, for instance, to make an adorable holiday gift wrap.
  1. What are your tips?
Send us a note at sustainabilitycommittee@g.lfis.edu.hk with all of your favourite sustainable holiday tips and tricks!
  1. Spend copious amounts of time with your loved ones
Without a doubt, the most precious gift of all!

This comes with our very best wishes for a wonderful holiday season and a greener 2023!
