FIS Makes First Foray into Senior Debating Championship

This past Saturday, 8th October, FIS debaters joined the Senior Schools Debating Championship for the first time and put in an exemplary performance by scoring two big wins and coming within a hair's breadth of breaking into the quarter-finals that took place on Sunday.

After weeks of preparation and planning, and many hours of discussion and debate, the five debaters steeled themselves and dove into the grueling, 8-hour long Saturday preliminary rounds of the competition. As mentioned, the team came close to breaking into quarter-finals, which was no small feat considering this was their first attempt, and one of the debaters, Juliette, scored 20th place overall (as individual debater) out of a field of 80+ debaters. Their teamwork and courage paid off with some wins and reflections on how to improve for next year, when they will come back stronger than ever.
