A week for thinking of others

Issue 02: 23/9/2022 Blue Pool Road From the Principal Y7, Y8, Y9, Y10, Y11, Y12, Y13

The year 12 & 13 students have this week been working with the well-know Crossroads Foundation, a charitable organisation who are based in Tun Muen but reach out to help people all around the world.  A report of this trip will appear elsewhere in this bulletin.  There was another significant event this week which made me think about the impact of those who lead their lives helping to improve the lives of others: that of the passing away of Queen Elizabeth II.  As a British citizen myself I was deeply touched by the deep affection in which our Queen was held by many others around the world, and got me thinking as to why she had such a profound impact on so many people?  Her state funeral was watched by millions world wide, and as part of the service there were regular references to her life being rooted in her christian beliefs.  A quick referel to any online search engine as to what these beliefs could be will provide a plethora of characteristics such as patience, humility, obedience, the forgiveness of others and an ability to love others as we would do ourselves.  A look back at the 70 years of her life as the Queen will show that Elizabeth II showed all these traits throughout her time on the throne, but what she will be remebered for most is the focus on serving others around her over this remarkable reign from 1953 – 20022, in the good times and the bad.  As an IB school we are reminded that one of the ten characteristics that we look to inculcate in our students is that of being caring people, who show empathy, compassion and respect: have a commitment to service: and who act to make a positive difference in the life of others and in the world around us.  If you have not done so already, I would urge you to have a conversation with your child(ren) as to what they most remember about the Queen.  Indeed, it was a remarkable life and one which will be held in great esteem by many in years to come.
