In every scenario, the FIS follows the decision of the Education Bureau (EDB). Education Bureau

However, below are common procedures in FIS according to different signals hoisted by the Hong Kong Observatory:

  • SIGNAL NO. 1: All classes will operate as usual.
  • SIGNAL NO. 3:
    • If this signal is hoisted during the night or after the end of classes of the previous day:
      At 7am, the school website will be updated according to the decision indicated on the website of the Education Bureau. Education Bureau
    • If this signal is hoisted during the school day:
      Parents may collect their children from school if they wish even though the school buses will run at the usual time. Students who normally take the bus and have not been collected earlier by parents will do so according to the usual bus schedule.
  • SIGNAL NO. 8:
    • If this signal is hoisted during the night or after the end of classes of the previous day:
      At 7am, the school website will be updated according to the decision indicated on the website of the Education Bureau. Education Bureau
    • When this signal is hoisted during the school day:
      Children will stay in school and will only be sent home when traffic conditions are back to normal.
  • AMBER RAINSTORM SIGNAL: All classes, including kindergarten, operate as usual.
  • RED OR BLACK RAINSTORM SIGNAL:
    • If this signal is hoisted during the night or after the end of classes of the previous day:
      At 7am, the school website will be updated according to the decision indicated on the website of the Education Bureau. Education Bureau
    • When this signal is hoisted during the school day:
      The school remains in session until the end of the day. Students who normally take the bus will do so according to the usual bus schedule.
IF THERE ARE ANY STORMS IN THE AREA, PLEASE LISTEN TO THE RADIO OR WATCH THE TELEVISION IN THE EVENING AND MORNING, FOR ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT.
