- over 3 years of age for the Petite Section
- over 4 years of age for the Moyenne Section
- over 5 years of age for the Grande Section.
Primary
Students coming from public or private French schools formally recognized by the French Ministry of National Education are admitted at the level (see the table above) stated by the previous school.
Students coming from private schools or from overseas schools not recognized by the French Ministry of National Education will be admitted upon assessment.
A sufficient fluency in spoken and written French is necessary.
Applications should be submitted to the Admissions Office (at Blue Pool Road). Acceptance depends on the interview between the family and the Primary School Director.
Secondary
Students coming from public or private French schools formally recognized by the French Ministry of National Education will start at the level decided by the class council of the previous school.
Students coming from private schools or from overseas schools not recognized by the French Ministry of National Education will be admitted upon assessment.
Applications should be submitted to the Admissions Office (at Blue Pool Road). Acceptance depends on the interview between the family and the Headmaster or the Deputy Headmaster.
Bilingual classes
Admission depends on the number of places available, which varies from year to year, and follows the date of registration. The following admission procedures apply:
- Admission criteria are the same as in the French stream.
- For entrance into a bilingual “Moyenne Section” (MS) or “Grande Section” (GS) class, language skills are evaluated through an interview conducted in both French and English, except for children already in a French stream class for whom the class teacher and the English teacher provide respectively an evaluation of French and English language skills.
Starting September 2011:
- Priority for admission into a kindergarten bilingual class will be given to students who are already in a non-bilingual class at the FIS, as is currently the case for primary classes.
- Children already in a French stream non-bilingual PS class will be given priority for admittance into a bilingual MS class.
- Children already in a French stream non-bilingual MS class will be given priority for admittance into a bilingual GS class.
Procedure for admission into a bilingual class since 2008 at primary and secondary level from “cours préparatoire” (CP) up:
- Students must already have been in the French Stream of the school for at least one school year. A commission meets at the end of each school year to examine the applications with regards the number of available places.
- Exceptionally, if there are places available in the bilingual class after the waiting list is exhausted, the Commission will examine the applications registered in the waiting list for less than one academic year. Transfer of students from the reinforced language classes into the bilingual classes can be made up to the end of January of the current school year.
- Priority is given to students who receive a favorable appraisal from both their French and English teachers (with the condition that a student must be in an advanced group for English (ESL) and that writing skills may be evaluated specifically from CE1 up.)
- The decision of the commission, presided by the Headmaster, is final and binding for the school year in question.
